What the free checker does
It loads the page in a real browser, the way a visitor would, and runs axe-core, IBM Equal Access, pa11y and an ARC-style engine against it, plus a keyboard focus check. The findings go through the same false-positive filtering and de-duplication as a full scan, so one problem on twenty buttons is one issue, not twenty.
It checks one page, skips Lighthouse and uses no AI. A free account scans whole sites, keeps your reports, shows every finding with its evidence, and adds the GitHub Action for pull requests. See plans.
What no automated checker can tell you
Automated testing reliably covers only part of WCAG. It can tell that an image has no alternative text, but not whether the text it has is accurate; it can measure contrast, but not whether a form makes sense with a screen reader. A clean result is a good start, not a certificate. The fix guides explain the most common failures, and the accuracy benchmark shows how often the scanner is right.
